Welcome to our 40th Winter Season!

This winter the LBL will be divided into 7 divisions which we have attempted to make as competitively balanced as possible. Each team will play a 12-game regular season schedule (14 games for those teams that opted for the "expanded" schedule). We are confident that you'll find the season a challenging one and we will "fine-tune" your schedule as we go along. The regular season culminates in a three-week playoff tournament to which all teams that accumulate 12 points will be invited.

The following AMENDMENTS TO THE RULES will be in effect this season:

- Due to heightened competition resulting from the use of Madison Square Garden, Final Rosters must be submitted to the league office Friday, February5th.

- All team fees must be paid in full by Friday, December 18th, 2009..

- In order to be eligible for the playoffs, players must appear on the team’s final roster and participate in at least three (3) regular season games. Players will be required to show photo identification prior to participating in any playoff game.

- If a team leads by thirteen (13) or more points at any point during the last two (2) minutes of the second half, the remainder of the game will be played as running time. However, should this lead fall under thirteen (13) points, the game will return to stopped time.

Standings, brought to you by the Crains New York Business Online, will be posted on the site every Tuesday. The League will use the following scoring system to determine playoff seedings. Each team will be awarded points on the following basis:

Victory

2 points
"No Contest"

1 point
Loss

0 points
Forfeit by 4 PM

-1 point
Forfeit no notice

- 2 points

Note: Teams do not recieve two points for an "expanded" schedule victory. However, teams will receive negative point(s) as allocated above for an "expanded" game forfeit - so make your games!

POSTPONEMENTS
Please note that the Lawyers Basketball League does not provide for postponements once the regular season or playoff schedule is set. The League goes to extraordinary lengths to accommodate your scheduling preferences, but once the schedule is set and announced, it is without authority or funding to alter it. Further, the League must pay for the gymnasiums and referees even if a game is not played in the allocated slot.

However, teams that have conflicts are free to attempt to rearrange their schedules by getting the mutual consent of all teams involved in the switch and submitting it to the League for final approval.

RULES FOR SNOW DAYS

(1) Call the League office by 12:00 PM for announcement as to whether the League has adjudged the weather to be sufficiently inclement to declare it a "snow day".

(2) Even though a "snow day" is declared, gyms will remain open, referees will be in place, and teams will be encouraged to make their games. Postponements are NOT possible.

(3) However, on "snow days", teams do have the option whether to play. Teams that do not wish to play may be awarded a "no contest" (as opposed to a forfeit) by notifying their opponent and the League office no later than 3:00PM on game day. Teams that do not give such notice by 3:00PM and do not show will be assessed a forfeit. In any event, the games will not be rescheduled for a later date.

(4) All the teams that wish to play (as well as opponents of teams who have forfeited that wish to scrimmage) should call the League office no later than 4:00PM to be advised of any location or time changes. The League may consolidate games and scrimmages into the most accessible gym locations.

FORFEITS AND GAME TIME
Forfeit time is ten (10) minutes after game time. In addition, to ensure that we meet gym curfews, the referees have the discretion to start the clock at the starting time, even though the game has not commenced - so urge your teammates to be prompt! Arrive early, loosen up on the sideline, get the rosters signed into the scorebook and make whatever other preparations are necessary while the preceding game is in progress; and as always, please wait outside the gym if a school activity is in progress.

If you know you are going to forfeit in advance, please notify the opposing team captain and the League office as early as possible.

HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENTS
All facilities we rent require the administrators of the League to sign contracts agreeing to indemnify and hold them harmless from any claims or suits (whether groundless or otherwise) arising out of accidents, injuries, or losses to any player. Accordingly, we require each participant to sign a waiver as a precondition to participating. As double "insurance" however, the League will have specially constructed score books with "hold harmless" agreements printed on the top of each sheet. For the first few games, and intermittently thereafter, each player will be required to sign the score sheet and by doing so, agree to the waiver. Your cooperation in administering this process is essential to the operation of the League and is truly appreciated.

PRACTICE GYMS
The League will again have limited weekday practice gyms available for rental to member teams on a rotating basis. Call the League office for details and reservation time.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS!
